My Policies and Expectations
In our classroom, we will abide by all of Havelock High's schoolwide policies. We will treat people, the classroom, and its materials with respect.
Attendance Policy
Students should be in their seats by the time the bell rings (or risk being marked tardy) and should remain seated until they are dismissed.
Students should be in class and on-task the entire period; however, each student will be issued three hall passes every nine weeks to use for their locker, water, or the restroom. I expect that these passes be used wisely -- at an appropriate time, and for a reasonable amount of time. The misuse of hall passes could result in disciplinary action.
Assignments
All assignments should be ready to be turned in at the beginning of class. Late homework assignments will not be accepted. Larger assignments will be marked down per day, as is detailed in the syllabus.
Cheating (including plagarism and unauthorized aid) will not be tolerated -- any evidence of cheating will be awarded a zero, and could result in a referral.
If you are having trouble with any of the work we do in class for any reason, do not hesitate to come see me about it. If you wait until the last minute to let me know about an issue, there is a far smaller chance that I will be able to help you. Seminar is a great time to get extra help if you need it.
Make-Up Work
If a student misses any work, they will have 5 days to make it up. Students are responsible for finding out what they missed and scheduling appropriate times to make it up (the last of the five days is not an appropriate time). Any missed assignments can be found in the corresponding class tab (above). Physical copies of worksheets with the student's name on it will usually be found in a clearly marked folder in the classroom.
Appropriate Classroom Behavior
My expectations of proper behavior for high school students is high -- I will not tolerate any teasing, cursing, or disruption in my class. Students should arrive to class on time with all necessary materials, completed homework, and a positive attitude, having tended to any physical needs (hunger, bathroom, etc) before class. Not paying attention or laying heads on desks could result in disciplinary action.
I retain the right to handle disciplinary mesaures within my classroom as I see fit. Students who behave in ways that do not merit a referral may recieve an after-school detention slip. They should come for detention before or after school within 5 days, or come see me about making alternate arrangements.
